Jai Ho…A reason to celebrate

with 7 comments

Too late for debates on Slumdog but I thought we were missing the point somewhere. The point of a billion Indians celebrating something. And do we need a reason for that?

It is an American honor ( in this case an oscar) to a song sung by a North Indian Sikh, the lyrics to which were written by a West Indian Muslim and was composed by a South Indian (past:Hindu present:Muslim future:Great) for a movie directed by a British Christian based on a book written by a North Indian Hindu.

Isn’t this reason enough?

Celebrate. Cheer for Good health. And ironically I am getting to say this-” Don’t think too much”

  6. Agree…there’s ebuff to celebrate about but tell me frankly- havent’; u heard better music than Jai ho? and wouldn;t all those compositions from Rahman be more deserving of an Oscar than Slumdog, if they were eligible for nominations. Most of the ppl I spoke with (inculding Indians)never felt any liking for the SDM music…!

Good that you brought this up. I never said it was rehman’s best work. I would probably call it his second rate work… But why would all those earlier brilliant works get an oscar.. They were for Indian Movies and Slumdog is NOT one.. So Rehman could get an oscar with his lesser work for an American movie… the question should be why are we celebrating an American award and not does Rehman deserve an oscar for this.
